I have both a BS degree in Fine Art (Skidmore College) as well as a subsequent AAS degree in Graphic Design & Photography (Sage College Albany), and over 18 years of experience in the fields of publications and science research. While tenured with the esteemed and Nobel Award winning Dr. Joachim Frank at the renowned Howard Hughes Medical Institute (previoiusly located in Albany, New York), I either created and/or finalized all images used for publications. I have had my work published in many of the leading scientific research journals including Science, Journal of Molecular Biology, RNA, EMBO and many others. In addition, I designed and created all posters used for conferences attended by the lab. While employed at Integrated Book Technology/Hamilton Printing (formally located in Troy, New York and Castleton-on-Hudson, New York) as a Project Manager for the Page Comp department, I typeset many titles for the prestigious Routledge Research division of Taylor & Francis, a academic publisher headquartered in the UK with a domestic office in New York City. In my pervious position as a Course Development Specialist in the Center for Online Education, Learning, and Academic Services with Excelsior College (located in Albany, New York), I programmed all courses assigned to me for upcoming semesters and sessions. A co-worker and I learned video production to help promote the department as well as other academic units. I am currently employed as a Driver Improvement Examiner with the Driver Regulation unit of the NYSDMV in Albany, New York. In 2013, I was hired as a consultant to provide a series of 6 large scale posters for 2 separate conferences for Dr. Barbara E. Bates, MD, MBA (Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Albany, NY). Two of these posters can be seen on the Graphics page. I have created commission pieces for clients including posters and original art work and some of my work is in private collections. As an aside, I have synesthesia. For those unfamiliar with it, synesthesia is a condition in which a section or sections of the brain interact with other sections of the brain in ways that they do not in the general population and it affects roughly 4% of the population. In my case, I have a form called chromesthesia which means I 'see' music in my minds eye as shapes and colors. For example, when I hear pure strings, I 'see' them as geometric shapes of translucent blues; burst of brass are fiery oranges and reds and very textured; woodwinds as various shades of opaque green, etc. I always listen to music when I create and it is always orchestral music - whether it be film scores or classical. The rhythm and the textures of the music always dictate where my paintings go. I consider it a great gift.
